"I do not find in Christianity one redeeming feature. It has made one half the world fools, the other half hypocrites."

-- Thomas Jefferson

The Diamonds from the Dung Heap

By Thomas Jefferson

We hear from ignorant clergy, peddling their ignorance and thier mythologies, about our Famous CHRISTIAN Founding Fathers. Thomas Jefferson is one that is always included in their rhetoric of lies and ignorance. TGS brings you this compilation of Jefferson's philosophies and his 'named by ignorance' the Jefferson Bible. The text of the diamonds is presented twice, once in a scripted font and once in a plain easier to read font.

Excerpt:

In some of the delightful conversations with you in the evenings of 1798-99, and which served as an anodyne to the afflictions of the crisis through which our country was then laboring, the Christian religion was sometimes our topic; and I then promised you that one day or other I would give you my views of it. They are the result of a life of inquiry and reflection, and very different from that anti-Christian system imputed to me by those who know nothing of my opinions. To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed opposed, but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself.

We must reduce our volume to the simple evangelists, select even from the very words of Jesus, paring off the amphiboligisms into which they have been led by forgetting often or not understanding what had fallen from him, by giving their own misconceptions as his dicta, and expressing unintelligibly for others what they had not understood themselves. There will be found remaining the most sublime and benevolent code of morals which has ever been offered to man. I have performed this operation for my own use, by cutting verse by verse out of the printed book, and arranging the matter which is evidently his, and which is as easily distinguishable as diamonds in a dunghill.
-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, October 13, 1813

"Whenever... preachers, instead of a lesson in religion, put [their congregation] off with a discourse on the Copernican system, on chemical affinities, on the construction of government, or the characters or conduct of those administering it, it is a breach of contract, depriving their audience of the kind of service for which they are salaried, and giving them, instead of it, what they did not want, or, if wanted, would rather seek from better sources in that particular art of science."

"Religions are all alike -- founded on fables and mythologies."

"Error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it."

"I am not myself apt to be alarmed at innovations recommended by reason. That dread belongs to those whose interests or prejudices shrink from the advance of truth and science."

"Certain teachings in the Bible are as diamonds in a dung-heap."
