video hurling racist and sexually explicit abuse at a group of teenagers has resigned as Dean of Melbourne's St Patrick's Cathedral, National Nine News has reported.


Monsignor Geoff Baron was filmed abusing the teenagers who were riding their skateboards in the Cathedral grounds.

Monsignor Baron is heard telling the skateboarders: "Get off the property you f***ing c***s. Get back to where you come from you f****** fool.''

He is then heard to say: ''You're the foreigner here. Look at those slitty eyes. You don't belong in Australia.''

After the video surfaced on the YouTube website last month, Monsignor Baron was ordered to take indefinite leave.

In a note to worshipers handed out during services yesterday, Archbishop Denis Hart said the dean would now take a period of rest and refreshment.

"Monsignor Baron has freely and spontaneously offered his resignation as Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, which has been accepted by the archbishop, effective August 15, 2007."

"He will have a period of rest and refreshment for the remainder of 2007. Our prayers and wishes go with him."

"We thank him for his four year's of generous and gifted service at St Patrick's Cathedral, St John's East Melbourne and Sacred heart Carlton."
