Pam Spaulding: Robert Novak's GOP Senate sources confirm that they knew about Craig's lewd conduct before the story broke nationally.

Novakula was on Bloomberg TV yesterday and said that several of Idaho Larry Craig's colleagues in the Senate knew about his cruising activities in public spaces long before he played footsie in the Minneapolis airport restroom and got caught.

I have talked to several of my sources in the Senate, and this came as a surprise to me...They knew about it. They knew that he had this problem, and it was in the closet. And it was not just a homosexual relationship. It was this weird conduct. They didn't do anything about it.

Of course the obvious question is what exactly would the GOP leadership have done to Craig, given he hadn't been arrested (that we know of) up until this incident. No one pulled him aside to let him know that he was a political ticking time bomb for the Party of Family Values. His friends clearly were hoping to put the blinders on and hope for the best rather than draw attention to another Republican Sexual Hypocrite in their midst.

Hat tip to Bloggernista, who said:

Did GOP learn nothing from the fallout over their hiding of former congressmen Mark Foley's predilection for teenaged pages? At least a dozen House Republicans and aides admitted to knowing about Foley's lewd behavior, some for over a year, but they did nothing.

The short answer is no, they won't learn from these incidents because the GOP potty cruising epidemic is not going to stop. These self-loathing closet cases are in such denial and are so twisted about their sexuality that it's almost a compulsion. About the only thing the GOP can do is to start weeding out closet cases from the party -- something the Freepers and bible beaters call for quite frequently.
