President Al Gore and Lame Duck George W. Bush stood shoulder to shoulder, somewhat awkwardly, making a passing effort to appear comfortable.

Still, maybe all this talk about Middle East peace Monday at the White House did rub off after all on the U.S. president.

Here's the proof even old enemies can stand to stand beside each other without cursing, if only for 30 seconds.

Following on the make-nice comments by Bush's press secretary, Dana Perino, earlier in the day, Gore had this to say about his 40-minute meeting with President Bush:

"It was very nice, very cordial. He was very gracious in setting up the meeting and it was a very good and substantive conversation."
