HiddenMysteries: How fundamentalism is ruining America

Fundamentalism is ruining everything. Especialy the (ideally) creative and inquisitive minds of young people. I am a high school sophomore and I will reveal how much Christian fundamentalism is perverting science and stupifying its followers with far-out beliefs. There is also a bit in there about why we should get rid of democracy.

Fundamentalism, whether Islamic, Christian, or anything, is a disease. Fundamentalism squashes creative thinking, especialy in young people. It ruins the American way of life. It produces kids who blindly believe in a very old book. As they leave the supposed facts of this book unquestioned, they also leave the rest of the world unquestioned.

I am a high school sophomore in Advanced Biology now. It mostly has the smarter people. It is a class of only 12 we have 4 creationists.

Now I had Biology last year. We had a evolution-creationism socratic seminar/debate. It was sad. Out of a class of 25 people only 7 believed in evolution. The rest believed in creationism. Some of the more extreme fundamentalists just quoted from the bible. Then, some just used the classic "Evolution really doesn't make sense" argument. Yet other creationists spouted off disproved psuedoscience, attesting to their general ignorance. That debate disgusted me with religion so much, that it transformed me from a very moderate christian to an atheist.

Young people today are absurdly fundamentalist. The problem is threefold: Getting lured into deceptively fun "youth groups" at fundamentalist churches, parents who are increasingly going to fundamentalist churches, dragging their kids with them, and also rising stupidity.

First of all, you have the youth groups. Youth groups are horrible. They have little fun get-togethers of games, food, and music blended in with Fundamentalist dogma. I went to one once, under pressure from a friend. It's almost like brainwashing. They are masquerading as a fun time for kids, and a safe, drug-free time filler for the parents. It's just fundamentalist crap. If I ever have kids, I would rather have them smoke weed than go to that shit. At least pot helps creativity, while fundamentalism squashes it.

Parents and the general populace at large are becoming increasingly fundamentalist. Most of the churches in my area are fundamentalist. When parents are fundamentalists, of course the kids become indoctrinated also, often to a greater degree than their parents.

Young people are getting stupider and consequently more fundamentalist as we speak. As my generation reaches voting age, the Focus on the Family shit will become law. That is why we need to solve this fundamentalist problem, among our young people especialy, though increased science education.

Young people these days are by and large very stupid and have poor logical skills. I would wager that the problem has several causes.

Some people are just born dumb. Usualy dumb kids also have dumb parents. Dumb parents typically provide a very unstimulating environment during the early years consisting mostly of worthless cartoons interspersed by periods of boredom. That makes the already slow children even stupider. An atrocious learning environment is one of the main factors in the increasing stupidity of today's young people. A poor learning environment, caused by today's poor parenting, can lower the IQ of above-average or average children as well as dunces.

Another thing is that stupid people reproduce more. These days, being stupid is an evolutionary advantage. When you take into consideration that stupid people, especialy fundamentalists, often have 3,4, or more kids, while better educated, smarter types will usualy only have 1 or 2, you begin to see that stupid people are spreading their mentally inferior genes at a far higher rate than smarter folks.

This increased stupidity obviosly results in more fundamentalism. Fundamentalism also results in increased stupidity. Fundamentalists blindly accept their dogma of floods, heaven and firmament, and other disproven things without question. They continue to due this despite proof of the old age of earth and the obvious fact that a world-encompassing flood did not occur 4,000 years ago. (BTW, if we did have a flood 4,000 years ago, it's kind of funny that the Egyptians or the Sumerians never seemed to notice it!).

Parents are short-changing their children's future by making them fundamentalist. No fundamentalist child could ever become a respected scientist. A hard-line fundamentalist child would typically also have problems with basic problem-solving from not thinking for himself, making a higher level job difficult.

Since the overwhelming majority of young people are fundamentalist, you can look forward to the Focus on the Family shit becoming law 20 years down the road. You can also expect China and Russia to have an increasing technological lead over us.

This brings me to my next rant section: People are too goddamn dumb to vote. In Washington, I have seen this in several tax-cutting initiatives recently passed that have crippled our state government. We have had tons of services cut because of I-695, which reduced license tabs to $35. Now people are bitching and moaning because the budget for roads, senior services, and many other programs have been cut. They are too dumb to figure out if you cut taxes, services are reduced.

Another thing I despise is the corruption of our politicians. The DMCA and the support for the upcoming SSSCA have shown us that politicians care about donations from big business more than they care about the prosperity of the voters. Senator Joe Scumbag can get a $5 milion donation from Disney for his presidential campaign. He then pumps the money into ad campaigns which Frank Dipshit sees when he's watching Jerry Springer. Frank Dipshit is impressed by Joe Scumbag's promise to reduce taxes, increase military and education spending, all while saving social security. (ring a bell???) Frank Dipshit is impressed by these shallow campaign promises. He casts his vote for Joe Scumbag. Scumbag is elected. He fucks the country up bad. But then blows some shit up in Franistan and his approval ratings climb to 95%, because the ignorant populace is impressed by the fact that he can use our ulra-modern, gigantic military to blow the shit out of some guys hiding in caves with AK-47s.

Democracy doesn't work. People are just too stupid to vote. Most voters today have the mental capacity of Frank Dipshit. If we had a constitutional oligarchy, things would be much improved.

In my improved gov't, congress, the prez, and the Supreme Court would be appointed. A politician's career would not hinge on the appoval of the idiotic masses. There would be no lobbying. All this would get rid of any corporate or religious influence. The politicians would vote on what is best for the people. It would not be what is best for the Christian Lobbyists, the MPAA, or the RIAA. They would have no say in what goes on.

My basic point is that if a politician doesn't have to worry about pleasing anyone, lobbyist or idiotic voter, the politician will use his power more wisely, to the benefit of the people.

Of course there would still be personal freedoms. Notice I said constitional oligarchy. That would prevent the gov't from abusing its power. If anything we would have more freedom that we do today. Since there would be no RIAA lobbyists, the DMCA or the SSSCA would not exist. There would be no fundamentalists putting their crap in public school textbooks, in blatant violation of the constitution.

People are just too stupid to vote. Remember how I said my class is about 3/4 creationist? Those people will be voting in a couple of years. When today's young people form a large part of the vote, you can kiss religious freedom goodbye.

Finally, since Sept. 11, Christian Fundamentalists have enjoyed unprecedented support from the government and the people alike. I have one thing to say to that: What the fuck!!!

Here we were attacked by Islamic Fundamentalists, and now all of a sudden we are in bed with fundamentalists of a different religion!? If anything, Sept. 11 should have reduced support for our Christian Taliban. Now towns are putting up the ten commandments in their courthouses. That is in violation of our constitution. If they put up the Christian commandments, then if a Buddhist wants the Middle Way posted on a plaque beside the 10 commandments, he should have the right to.
