Will the Emperor (Barack Obama) Remain a Mute?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for talks with President Barack Obama to address US concerns over its nuclear program. In September, Ahmadinejad will be in New York at the UN. President Ahmadinejad said that he is ready to hold face-to-face talks with Obama on world developments at the upcoming UN General Assembly.

"I would like to declare my readiness to have face-to-face talks in the presence of world media with the U.S. president at the UN General Assembly."

"How many (UN) resolutions have you issued? Four? You can issue 4,000 sanction resolutions. That only shows the reigning despair in the US administration and does not have any impact on our willingness to continue the nuclear work," President Ahmadinejad said.

"They either use the literature of threats or issue (UN) resolutions. Using the rhetoric of threat and sanctions and referring to weapons whenever there is a political problem shows that the Americans have reached a dead-end."

The Obama administration imposed further sanctions on Iran by identifying 21 entities, including banks, investment companies and technology firms who are believed to be owned or controlled by the Iranian government.

As could have been expected from George Bush, the invitation to talk was rebuffed, "We have always said that we'd be willing to sit down and discuss Iran's illicit nuclear program, if Iran is serious about doing that," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, adding "To date, that seriousness has not been there."

The US is speaking ridiculously. If anyone lacks seriousness, it's the US. Their lies and deception wore thin on the rest of the world a long time ago. Yet they insist on using a language of authority and high moral ground when it comes to "seriousness."

To remind, Iran is seeking to enrich uranium for its peaceful nuclear energy program while the US and Israel accuse them of diverting the technology for a nuclear bomb. Under the NPT treaty, signatories are allowed to develop nuclear programs for peaceful purposes. It is more a matter of the "big powers" trying to keep developing nations down and out and subservient.

"If the U.S. president expresses his readiness, it would be a good opportunity for face-to-face transparent talks at the UN General Assembly," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters.

Iran has several times warned that in case of attack it would block the strategic Gulf waterways, especially the Strait of Hormuz, which is a major route for global oil exports. The deputy head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, General Yadollah Javani, said Tehran would decisively retaliate against any US attack and firmly defend its territorial integrity and interests.

"The remarks by Mullen are another part of the US psychological war against Iran with the aim to intimidate Iran in the nuclear dispute negotiations," Javani was quoted as saying by IRNA.

"However, our response to any attack would be firm, and the US is aware that the Persian Gulf is a strategic region and jeopardizing the region's security would also jeopardize American interests," the general added.

Iran also said that the Islamic state would use 100 military vessels to confront each US warship.

Obama met a convicted murderer, Leonid Nevzlin, who stole billions of dollars from the Russian people, and who was convicted in absentia in a Russian Court of arranging several murders, including that of a widow who refused to sell him a piece of property she owned. This is Nevzlin who spent TWO HOURS discussing Israel with Obama.

Nevzlin moved to Israel, and acquired Israeli citizenship. Attempts to extradite him to Russia have been thwarted. Since leaving Russia, Nevzlin has become a vocal critic of the Kremlin, and reportedly offered to bankroll the presidential campaign of former chess champion Gary Kasparov. Nevzlin also set up an institute on Eastern European and Russian Judaism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

However, in an interview with CNN, General James Jones said "the door’s open" if the Iranians agree to resume talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency. This was perceived in some media as a softening of the US stance under pressure or an attempt to deflect criticism for their bull-headed attitude, the bull-headed attitude of successive administrations not to meet with leaders they in their own minds designate as "pariahs."

So what is the US trying to prove by avoiding talks with leaders they (hate, disagree with, want to get rid of?)? Does anyone seriously think it improves their prestige and power rather than make them look arrogant, haughty, unfriendly, war-like and stupid? It is time for change, as promised. It is time for diplomacy, not threats and sanctions. It is time to face reality...the US is not the international community, nor do they have some mythical "international community" supporting their idiocy. Everyone expected something better from Obama than just another George Bush with some gray matter instead of rocks between his ears.
